In this painting, story of Goddess Durga is shown. In the centre she is depicted in the form of Mahishasur Mardini (the slayer of the buffalo demon). When the Gods were defeated by Mahishasur, the buffalo demon, they invoked the Goddess Durga. She manifested with the combined energy of all the Gods to fight the dark forces. She fought a fierce battle with Mahishasur and killed him. Here she is shown as riding a lion and carrying various weapons in her hands while killing the demon Mahishasur.
